Fr. Berek with his wife Eri and their son Justo flew to Honolulu to celebrate the seventh anniversary of All Saints Anglican Church on Pentecost, May 24th. Festivities got underway on Friday, with Fr. Berek giving a talk about Christianity and tea ceremony in Japan to members of All Saints at Fr. Mark Brians' home, followed by a barbeque dinner with some 30 or so church members.

Saturday started off with a simple but refreshing Matins on the beach, followed by brunch. In the afternoon, Fr. Berek hosted a celebratory tea ceremony at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii’s tea house, called Seikōan. The tea ceremony was followed by a Q&A.

On Sunday, All Saints celebrated its seventh anniversary with a 4:00 p.m. Eucharist, with clergy and former members visiting from various parts of the U.S. (see photos from the service here). During the ceremony Fr. Berek gifted All Saints with a tea bowl from Yutaka Ono’s “Sen” collection, featuring a cross design.

Fr. Berek and his family toured the island on Monday, returning to Japan on Tuesday morning. We at OMSA are blessed to have a sister church in Honolulu that prays for us and wants to deepen our mutual relationship. We thank God for their presence and the joy their fellowship brings us.
